Handmade Sedar Plates

Each Sedar plate is carefully constructed by hand. They are created with cream colored clay and glazed with bright white glaze. These textured Sedar plates contain seven unmarked spaces. Handmade items vary, two are never the same. All signs of human touch are evidence of the process and the makers mark.

The plates are generally within the size range of 9 to 12 inches.
I offer a custom hand painted rim in various colors to add personality and character.

Care and maintenance: for longevity and wear they are best hand washed.

The Jewish holidays are filled with traditions that create priceless memories. Now as I have the honor of hosting the holidays, I relish these memories more than ever. As I help raise my children and establish traditions of my own I am reminded of the cherished time I spent helping my mother and grandmother set tables and cook. The special holiday plates and platters passed down through generations or purchased to add to our collection hold deep meaning and symbolise the critical role of our hosts and the importance of gathering.
These sedar plates are created as a symbol of not only Passover but of the female role in Judaism. They are created with impressions made from beloved lace objects to create texture and shaped to accentuate movement with a node to nature through their organic form. The lace was inspired by the textured table clothes used by the generations before me that can be carried through to the generations to come by this plate.
I have chosen not to apply words to these plates to give the user some flexibility and freedom. You may choose to honor the traditional selection of objects on the sedar plate or experiment with your own to represent the desired theme as my own mother has chosen to do.
